Matsuda

Where Heritage Meets Modern Mastery

For over 45 years, Matsuda has fused meticulous craftsmanship with contemporary design. Each frame is more than eyewear—it’s a sculpted work of art, shaped to please both the eye and the hand. Inspired by history yet reimagined through a distinctive modern lens, Matsuda’s creations carry a timeless elegance rooted in heritage and place.

Patience in Every Detail

While the world chases speed, Matsuda embraces the art of taking time. In Japan’s renowned eyewear workshops, master artisans shape each piece entirely by hand.

A Legacy of Vision

In 1967, Mitsuhiro Matsuda founded his namesake brand in Tokyo, earning acclaim as one of Japan’s most celebrated fashion houses. Trained at Bunka, the country’s premier design school, Matsuda was the first to fuse architecture with fashion and helped launch Tokyo Fashion Week. In 1989, he introduced a groundbreaking eyewear collection—pieces so distinct that early models are now prized by collectors.

Where are Matsuda glasses manufactured?

Every single pair of genuine Matsuda glasses and sunglasses is handcrafted by master artisans in the historic optical workshops of Sabae, Japan. Sabae is globally revered for having the highest standards of titanium metallurgy, intricate engraving, and artisan frame engineering on earth.

What makes Matsuda frames unique?

Matsuda eyewear is uniquely recognized for its fusion of Gothic steampunk architecture with traditional Japanese metalwork. The frames are famous for their lack of loud logos, focusing instead on structural identifiers like hand-carved filigree engravings, custom mesh side shields, and visible core wire details.
